Thatch Firewall Membrane is manufactured to meet the specifications as recommended by Building Control as a suitable Thatch Fire Barrier. Thatch Firewall Membrane is a flexible fibre glass woven fabric, with a fire retardant coating of specially formulated grey polyurethane with added aluminium pigment on both sides.
With the Thatch Firewall Membrane being fixed to the rafters underneath the thatch, it offers a one hour fire barrier (BS476 Part3 2004) classification EXT.S.AC. In the event of a thatch fire the thatch is considered sacrificial.
Benefits
Specification
Testing
Thatch Firewall Membrane is tested to BS476 Part3; this test was completed by the BRE, Watford. A Copy of the test certificate is available upon request.
Application
Thatch Firewall Membrane is laid horizontally across the rafters with a 75mm overlap on all joints, to provide a suitable Thatch Fire Barrier. The Thatch Firewall Membrane can either be stapled or nailed to the rafters and then battens are fitted over the top with 300mm centres, with the first batten 125mm from the arris rail.
Systems
Thatch Firewall Membrane can be used as a stand alone fire barrier in accordance with BS476 Part3, however we also recommend that Thatch Firewall Membrane be used in conjunction with ThatchBatts to create a more comprehensive thatch fire barrier and increase thermal insulation values.
