Testing

TAS100 Thatch Fireboard is tested to BS476 Part3 and achieved a Non-flammable classification of EXT.S.AA. This test was completed by the BRE, Watford. A Copy of the test certificate is available upon request.

Environmental

TAS100 Thatch Fireboard can safely be disposed of in landfills or used as hardcore, due to not containing any formaldehyde or other toxic substances that can have a negative impact on the environment and waterways.

Application

TAS100 Thatch Fireboard is positioned on top of the rafters and fixed down with either nails or screws. We would then recommend that all joints are sealed with a fire rated intumescent joint sealant. Battens are then fitted over the top with 300mm centres, with the first batten 125mm from the arris rail.

Systems

TAS100 Thatch Fireboard can be used as a stand alone fire barrier in accordance with BS476 Part3, however we also recommend that TAS100 Thatch Fireboard be used in conjunction with Thatchbatts to create a more comprehensive fire barrier and increase thermal insulation values.

For example if the underside of the TAS100 Thatch Fireboards are exposed to heat from the living space of the house, then consideration needs to be given to the provision of additional insulation such as Thatchbatts. Not installing correct levels of insulation can allow warm air to meet cold air on the top side of the TAS100 Thatch Fireboards which can increase the risk of condensation.

Implementation

TAS100 Thatch Fireboard is a very easy product to handle despite the apparent rigidity. It must be installed in a professional ‘tradesman – like’ manner to get the desired durability and perfect finish.

Cutting

TAS100 Thatch Fireboard sheets are cut very easily using a carbide tip knife. For rough cuts place the TAS100 Thatch Fireboard sheet rough side up, scour along the straight line with a knife, then snap the other side to separate the two sheets to get a clean cut.

Finer cuts are achieved by using a tool such as circular saw, jigsaw, bench top saw etc (please review Health & Safety practices regarding dust).

Service holes can be created using drills, hole saw or jigsaw.

Installing

TAS100 Thatch Fireboard is positioned on top of the roof rafters with the smooth side facing upwards. We would recommend that all joints are sealed with a durable elastic polyurethane fire rated sealant. Battens are then fitted over the top with 300mm centre, with the first batten 125 mm from the arris rail. All the framing and substances used must comply with relevant building regulation and standards.

It is also important to ensure that the frame is square and straight to provide the flush face to receive the sheeting.

General

TAS100 Thatch Fireboard may be screwed or nailed on to the frame as appropriate. Use fasteners suitable for the roof rafters in place, ensuring that the screws have enough length to provide a good grip to the roof rafters, with centres being between 150 and 200mm.TAS100 Thatch Fire Board Fixings

When using self embedding screws ensure that they do not go more than 0.5mm below the surface of the board, and kept no more than 12mm away from the edges, and 50mm away from the corner of the board. Furthermore, ensure that screws do not over-spin, thus losing grip of the frame.

Please consult you’re Architect or building control officer with regard to the any required insulation values or the need for a vapour barrier.
